Why Philmont? Why High adventure?

Qualifications:
 Participants must be at least 14 years old by date of arrival at Philmont OR completed 8th grade and be at least 13 years old by time of arrival. Boy Scouts must be First Class Rank. First Aid, Camping, Cooking and Hiking or Backpacking merit badges are also recommended. All participants must meet Philmont's height/weight standards in order to trek in the backcountry.  Active participation in 191 crew training & shakedown events is required.

Age appropriate youth protection presentations will held at the weekly troop meeting on Thursday May 23. Scouts in grades 5, 6 and 7 will attend "A Time to Tell" and grade 8 through high school scouts will attend BSA Youth Protection.

Troop 191 Summer Camp 2012 will be held at Ockanickon Scout Reservation between Sunday July 15^th and Saturday July 21^st, 2012. Cost for camp this year is $232.00 per Scout if paid by February 10^th. The cost will rise to $250.00 after this date through April 24^th.

Parents if your son will be attending camp this year please signup online AND print and complete this form and submit to Mr. Smith with payment. The cost of summer camp can be paid by scout account or check made payable to Troop 191.

Reminder that boating safety training and certification is this Saturday at the Bethlehem Township Community Center. The course is eight hours long.

Rob has asked that you attend with:

1. Self-addressed stamped envelop
2. Photo copy of some sort of ID (School ID, Drivers License, etc.)
3. Pen or Pencil
4. Highlighter
5. Snacks, Drinks and Lunch

3 hour “PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN (PGC)”

Course mandated by the Catholic Dioceses of New Jersey for their volunteers including all Scout leaders chartered by Catholic institutions.  This course meets requirements for 3 hours professional development credit for teachers and medical care personnel.

To view a list of all diocesan PGC classes and preregister please log onto www.virtus.org, then select Registration/ View a list of Sessions/ Metuchen, NJ Diocese and then Immaculate Conception-Clinton(Annandale) so that adequate materials and set up can be arranged.  For persons required by the Catholic Church to take the course computer registration is mandated.  Note additional classes will be taught for a group of at least 6 persons upon request.

These programs are open to anyone interested in learning about child abuse and most particularly, child sexual abuse, in the United States.  The primary purpose is to arm Boy Scout volunteers with the knowledge necessary to keep children safe, to identify persons and practices that represent a threat to children, to understand legal obligations and pitfalls and to change caring adults’ behavior in ways that will make it more difficult for predators of children to succeed.  

The Protecting God’s Children program is restricted to adults who are defined as persons over 18 who have graduated from high school;  however some classes have a special teen leader section.  A teen’s parent must have taken the course, provide written permission for their teen to attend the course and discuss in advance with the instructor.

Attendees are asked to arrive on time and remain the entire class to receive credentials for attendance.  No children are permitted present. 

Although teaching both “Catholic” and “Boy Scout” courses the program material is aimed at all who honor a duty to God, family and community.  The trainer, Nora Burke Klippstein (klipclan@att.net), is a Boy Scout leader actively living an interfaith marriage.

We need to get a final headcount to the boating school so that books may be ordered for participants. If you are planning to take this training visit the signup page to sign up for this training.

Mr. Rob Alport of the NJ Boating Safety School has generously offered to provide the NJ Boating Safety Instruction and Certification course free of charge to scouts and leaders at the Bethlehem Township Community Center on Saturday September 17, 2011. Family members and friends may take the course for $75.00 per person. An online signup is now available on the troop website.

The 2010 guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care have changed.

Troop 191 will have a Wilderness Survival Campout on the weekend of November 19, 20 and 21, 2010.
This campout will be held at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Blairstown New Jersey where scouts will learn Wilderness Survival Skills.

This Wilderness Survival Program has levels that are appropriate to the skills of the scouts attending. There is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd year program.
Since this is the first time our scouts will be attending this program, all our scouts will attend the first year program. This is age appropriate for scouts of all ages/ranks.  The program will be conducted at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Blairstown New Jersey.

We also received information about the cost for each scout. The cost for the program and food will be approximately $80.00. Troop 191 has decided to contribute $40.00, so approximately 50% of the cost of this trip will be covered by the troop. The remainder may be paid by each scout through their scout account or a check made out to “Troop 191”.
