We will have a special guest who will share with us his experiences at Philmont
To help prepare the troop for our trip during the summer of 2016

⦁    What opportunities, adventures, and experiences are there at Philmont
⦁    Cost and budget and payment plan options 
⦁    Logistics of getting scouts to New Mexico

 

Why Philmont? Why High adventure? 
⦁    The largest youth camp in the world
⦁    leaves lasting memories with youth and fosters development in character and leadership
⦁    It has been described as a life changing trip by almost every scout who has attended
⦁    Thirty-four staffed camps and 55 trail camps are operated at Philmont
⦁    Philmont is the BSA’s oldest and largest national high adventure base. 
⦁    Over 137,000 acres of mountainous backcountry in northeastern New Mexico.
⦁    Altitude ranges from 6,000 to over 12,000 feet above sea level.
⦁    Backcountry programs include rock climbing, mountain biking, black-powder rifles, logging, horseback riding, mine tours,  gold panning, search & rescue and many more.
⦁    Grow teamwork, leadership and outdoor skills
⦁    Philmont is home to the only know Tyrannosaurus Rex footprint in the world.
⦁    Philmont is still a working cattle ranch with rodeo champion wranglers on staff.
⦁    The Tooth of Time was a landmark on the Santa Fe Trail.
⦁    Kit Carson museum

Qualifications:
 Participants must be at least 14 years old by date of arrival at Philmont OR completed 8th grade and be at least 13 years old by time of arrival. Boy Scouts must be First Class Rank. First Aid, Camping, Cooking and Hiking or Backpacking merit badges are also recommended. All participants must meet Philmont's height/weight standards in order to trek in the backcountry.  Active participation in 191 crew training & shakedown events is required.
