Join us in our Frontier Trek!
This spring the Mercer Area and Pahaquarra Districts are hosting a joint Cub Scout Cubarama and Boy Scout Camporee at Yards Creek Scout Reservation (YCSR). The date for the Cubarama is April 30, 2011. The Camporee will be held concurrently on April 29 to May 1, with a mandatory Troop checkin on Friday night.
The theme of this event is a Frontier Trek and the planned activities are based on this theme. Some activity stations will be just for Cub Scouts and some will be just for Boy Scouts, but most stations will be for all Scouts to enjoy. For a complete list of proposed stations, please see the separate information sheets, which can be found at this event's web site at http://mad-bsa.org/frontier2011/
The area around YCSR provides many opportunities for day hiking for Scouts of all ages and abilities. See the web site for a description of some short hikes that you might want to do on Saturday. Please note that only Boy Scout Camporee participants can register for the optional Seven-Mile Trek on Saturday morning. See the web site for more details.
There will also be an opportunity for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to earn the Trailblazer Adventure Patch at this event. This special patch is being offered in partnership with the U.S. Sportsman's Alliance Foundation (USSAF). To earn this patch, the scouts will have to fill out a card and participate in a certain number of stations at this event.
Pack and Troop Registration Forms can be found on this event's web site. Regular registration closes on Friday, April 8th. The fees increase after this date and then late registration closes on April 22nd. Sorry, but registration forms will not be accepted after April 22nd.
Boy Scouts and Venturers will also be able to participate in one of four Power Treks during the day on Saturday, April 30th. The four choices of Treks are: Canoeing, Cycling, Hiking, and the Raid Trek, which is a combination of hiking and canoeing. All treks will start and end at YCSR. Participants will be bused to the starting points for the Canoeing Trek and the Hiking Trek. Power Trek Registration is on an individual basis and automatically includes registration for the Camporee and all activities including camping. See this event's web page for more details and the Power Trek Registration Form.
A Webelos Den can attend the Camporee instead of the Cubarama if they have a Troop to sponsor them. These Webelos Scouts have to be registered with their sponsoring troop and pay the Camporee fee. They would camp and eat meals with that troop and participate in the camporee stations. If a Webelos Den cannot find a Troop willing to sponsor them, please contact me, David Mitchko, at the email address below and I will provide a list of interested Troops.
To help both Packs and Troops in their recruitment efforts, Prospective Scouts will be able to attend this event at no charge. Prospective Scouts are boys of Scouting age and who are not currently registered with a Pack or Troop. This is a good opportunity for a Cub or a Boy Scout to invite their neighbor, friend, relative or schoolmate to a Scouting event to see what Scouting is all about. Since they are registered with a Pack, Webelos Scouts who are camping with a troop are not considered Prospective Scouts and cannot attend for free, sorry. See this event's web page for more details about Prospective Scouts.
