For younger scouts in the 5th or 6th grade and their parents tonight is an important meeting where youth protection will be covered. I sent some additional information about this about a month ago on March 25th. Please make every effort to attend tonight’s troop meeting if your scout is in the 5th or 6th grade.
Next for those that have not already noticed the troop website has recently been updated. I encourage folks to register on the site as several new capabilities will become available only to registered users. The first such capability is the online registration to events. This capability will allow families to sign up for scouting events and always have the ability to look back on their status and see what you signed up for. You will also receive a confirmation in your email for each event that you register for. Just a quick word about security on the site; you’ll notice that whenever you reach a page where you enter information (registration, login, name, address, etc.) the URL of the page will change to a prefix of https. This means all information transmitted between your computer (client) and the web server is encrypted when sent over the internet using Secure Sockets (SSL) technology. This is technology that you are probably already well aware of if you engage in any online commerce over the internet.
The scouts at this month’s PLC have planned a couple events in the near future and barring any technical issues the signup will be conducted online. I’ll send more detailed information on the process when the first event for registration is brought live on the site but basically you’ll visit the Calendar page on the website and find the event you wish to register for, then click that event and complete the signup information. There is also a list view showing upcoming events right on the home page.
Also for scouts in need of service hours there will be a Mother / Son event sponsored by the Bethlehem Township PTA tomorrow at the Ethel Hoppock Middle School. This service opportunity is intended for older scouts to manage challenge tables during the event. See me tonight for contact information and to sign up. The time tomorrow is between 6:30 – 9:00 PM.
Lastly a quick reminder that this weekend is the Rafting Trip on Sunday May 1st for those scouts and family members that signed up.
